Ecuadorian Raiforest
Ecuador is a nature lover’s paradise.  The amazing variety of vegetation in Ecuador supports a startling variety of vegetation; from high Paramo to Tropical Rainforest and mangrove swamps, make it the home to a great variety of species.  In fact it is home to more species of birds than any other Latin American country, estimated at over 1500 species of birds, plus 3000 different species of orchids.  Our tours are specially selected to give visitors the greatest cross-section of countryside, and therefore wildlife.

Ecuador is home to toucans and parrots, several species of hummingbirds, the red-billed quetzal, black-billed pepper-shrike, prince-hawk, re-backed hawk, the masked trogon, mountain tanagers, plush-capped finch, solitary eagles, clack and chestnut eagles, military macaws, band bellied owls, white capped parrots, orange breasted falcons, Andean potoos and emerald toucanets, just to name a few.

Some of Ecuador’s highlights include:

The Pasochoa Nature Reserve features one of the few remaining Andean forests and is home to a variety of bird life: over 11 Hummingbird species, Tyrant Flycatchers and Honeycreepers amongst others.

Many bird lodges are situated in the valley named Tandayapa, in the midst of the mid-altitude cloud forest.  This area is home to many migrant, resident, and endemic bird species.

The Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano, is both impressive and magnificent at 5.897 meters.  The Cotopaxi National Park is home of the Tury Hummingbird and the Andean Condor.

Machalilla National Park is very special place to visit all year round; from frigate birds and blue-footed boobies, to mountain tapirs, iguanas and pumas; it is the only coastal park in Ecuador, yet it encompasses deserts, forests, and the offshore Isla de la Plata which has similar bird life to Galapagos.

From June to September, visitors are able to witness the very special sight of hundreds of hump-back whales migrating up the coast from Antarctica to breed in the warmer Ecuadorian waters.
